about us

Upon completing of a 2 year 10 month Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Nuku’alofa, Tonga mission in 1976, ‘Aisake Tukuafu who founded OPI migrated to the USA in search of better opportunities. Unsure of where to start he sought the advice of Elder John Groberg of the Seventy who advised him to “learn and grow your knowledge of a trade, and one day you will return to Tonga to utilize it”. In 1977 he got an apprenticeship and gained journeymen status, starting self-employment in 1980 while living in Portland Oregon.

Through spiritual promptings, and having learned a trade he moved his family back to Tonga in 1988 to start Oregon Pacific International (OPI) as a Flooring and Custom Joinery company. Since its establishment OPI has moved on from its humble beginning as a flooring company and diversified into a market leading General Contractor within the Tongan construction landscape.
